The Sossusvlei & Etosha Fly-In Safari takes you over a five-day period into the oldest desert in the world, the Namib and to the Etosha National Park, one of the largest and oldest game reserves on earth! Towering dunes, shimmering pans, and an endless sea of sand, this is Sossusvlei, the highlight of your trip to the Namib. Early morning sunlight paints the dunes in dramatic hues and shadows.
You should also not miss the Etosha National Park, where a large variety of wildlife can be observed. Waterholes along the edge of the pan guarantee rewarding and often spectacular game viewing. Your guide will inform you in detail about the rich variety of antelopes, big cats, birds, and flora.
Etosha is a unique wildlife reserve with abundant wildlife and a huge salt pan.
Check-in during the morning at Eros Airport in Windhoek. Flight in a small aircraft from Windhoek to Sesriem, the entrance gate to the Namib Naukluft Park. Short transfer from the airstrip to your exclusive lodge, where you will spend the next two nights. Upon arrival at the lodge you can relax and enjoy lunch if you like. In the late afternoon you participate in a Sundowner-Drive to explore the Namib Desert. Enjoy your sundowner and experience the dramatic change from blazing sunshine to twinkling stars. Back at your accommodation you enjoy a tasty dinner on the terrace under a starry sky.
(Flight time 1 hour 20 minutes)
Today you go on a guided Sossusvlei & Dead Vlei Excursion. Getting up early for your desert excursion is rewarded by the fantastic play of light and shadows. Enjoy the spectacular landscape with its pastel colors. The route leads along and across the Tsauchab dry riverbed, which has found a way through the dunes until it reaches the clay pan – the Sossusvlei. The early morning sun offers spectacular pastel colors in the star-shaped dunes. Sossusvlei is a huge clay pan, enclosed by gigantic mountains of sand, including the world’s highest dunes. Climb one of these dunes – there are plenty – and you might be overwhelmed by the sight of the dynamic and living desert! You continue to the base of the ‘Dead Vlei’. You will be rewarded for your efforts – the scenery is awesome! The pan is punctuated by blackened, dead acacia trees, in vivid contrast to the shiny white salty floor of the pan and the intense orange of the dunes. The marvelous beauty of the Vlei with its dunes and ancient camel thorn trees more than amply rewards those who journey there. During the afternoon you can relax and enjoy the vast desert landscapes. A variety of optional activities are available and can be booked.
After breakfast transfer to the airstrip. From here flight in a small aircraft back to Eros Airport in Windhoek. Here the aircraft will be refuelled. (approximately 30 – 40 Minutes)
Continue your flight from Windhoek to the Mokuti airstrip, which is situated just outside the Etosha National Park. From here a short transfer to your exclusive accommodation, where you will spend the next two nights. Upon arrival at the lodge you can relax and enjoy lunch if you like. In the afternoon at 3 p.m. you go on your first guided game drive in the Etosha National Park. Waterholes along the edge of the pan guarantee rewarding and often spectacular game viewing. You will be back at your accommodation before sunset, where you enjoy a tasty dinner.
At 7:00 you go on a guided game drive into the Etosha National Park. With a bit of luck, you might see nocturnal animals like lions, leopards and cheetahs or hyenas and jackals roaming the bush in the early morning. Enjoy the experience of observing the diverse wildlife in the great outdoors. You will be back at the lodge around 11 am. Here you can relax and unwind over the midday hours. The animals actually feel the same – in the midday heat they prefer to take a nap under a shady bush, which is why the best times for game drives are early mornings and late afternoons. In the afternoon at 3 p.m. you will go on another game drive. No game drive is the same! You will be surprised again and again which animal comes next to the waterhole. Many game species that are typical of the African savannah can be found here in large numbers, including elephant, zebra, giraffe, blue wildebeest, oryx, springbok, kudu and the unique black-faced impala. Hundreds of bird species have been documented, which are complemented by migratory birds in the summer months. At sunset you leave the park and accommodation as previous day.
At 07:00 a last guided game drive in the park with wildlife sightings. The exciting thing is that you do not know which “wild” encounters you will have. The only thing that is certain is that it will be varied and exciting! The park’s vegetation is diverse, and each waterhole tells a different story. You will be back at the lodge at 11am. Here you can relax a bit and enjoy lunch.
Transfer to the airstrip in the early afternoon. From here flight back to Eros Airport in Windhoek.
